I primarily read historical, mystery and thriller novels. Yet, when I chose this genre, I found Andrea Simmone writes more than your average Romance novel... it's amusing! I needed a light read and though it's my second pass at it, I knew it would provide the reprieve I needed from my intensely, busy life. But first the facts...Her lead female character, Natalie is the frumpy, overweight co-owner of a successful bakery. Her husband of 14 years, Peter, unexpectedly dumps her for (surprise, surprise) an older, gorgeous business owner and yoga instructor who is also a life coach.Blair is Natalie’s business partner and friend who, with Natalie, wants to extend the location of their business. Their geeky landlord, Anthony, is balking at their request. He believes their numbers don’t add up to justify expanding to the vacant store next door. Natalie targets her anger at Anthony. She's frustrated over the inability to grow the business where they are, her failed marriage and her bias against (did I mention Anthony is gorgeous?) “men who have women flocking toward them.”Lindsey is Natalie’s loyal, beautiful, sister and best friend. She moves in with both Natalie and her niece to unconditionally support them with the changes that lie ahead.I can’t say I relate to these character’s immediate issues, but I’ve lived a version of them. I like to think I have a healthy sense of humor and enjoyed Simmone’s assigned thinking with how her characters handle life. For me, they certainly have relatable vulnerabilities and I was sucked in.In short, I read the book cover to cover in a day and came out feeling lighter from it! Natalie gets dumped by her husband Peter when he takes up with another woman. Natalie survives, though barely. She's so tied up in her bakery business she hadn't noticed the demise of their marriage.She's a whiz at churning out sweet delicacies for the bakery and wants to expand the business. Enter, her extremely good-looking, geeky landlord, Anthony. Trying times expand exponentially.Astronomer, professor, studier of black holes and big-bang related sciencey stuff, he's soon drawn to other holes he'd rather study.He's a hot Italian, speaks Italian romantically and makes love like a Romeo. He's also an analytical mathematician who follows formulas to make decisions about his life. That angers and confuses her beyond all else when he refuses to lease her additional space for the bakery.This love story is set in Seattle with a little break or two in Rome. Italian family references add twists and turns that will keep Natalie and Anthony twisting and turning.For being a geek, Anthony is a very understanding person, a real catch, a sweet lover. Natalie recovers from years of emotional abuse by Peter and develops self-worth and dignity through the support of Anthony and friends.
